Diagnostic imaging programmes beyond plain radiography train the people who produce the pictures physicians diagnose from using every modality except x-ray alone — ultrasound, echocardiography and vascular studies, nuclear medicine, computed tomography and magnetic resonance. Each modality has its own physics, its own certification and, in Florida, its own regulatory answer.
The degrees this program covers
Taught at 22 Florida public institutions across the modalities, and overwhelmingly as ASSOCIATE degrees: sonography at 11 institutions with 147 credentials, cardiovascular technology at 7 with 86, nuclear medicine at 5 with 44, and the advanced-modality certificates — computed tomography, magnetic resonance, mammography — at 21 with 69. ⚠⚠ Those certificate programmes are mostly NOT a way in: they are post-primary credentials for people who already hold a registry, which is the same pattern the radiologic technology programme warns about. ⚠⚠⚠ The most consequential thing to understand is that Florida's regulation follows RADIATION rather than imaging. Nuclear medicine uses ionizing radiation and requires a state certificate under Chapter 468 Part IV; ultrasound does not use ionizing radiation and Florida does not license it at all. Two people in the same imaging department, and only one of them needs the state's permission to work.
Careers this program leads to
Each one sets out the courses along the way, the licence or certification at the end,
and the sources behind it.
Neighbouring fields that share much of the same coursework, and often the same employers.
⚠ Read these before you commit to a major — which doors a neighbouring degree
keeps open is the part no catalog tells you, and it is far cheaper to change now than later.
22 institutions awarded a credential in this field in 2023,
at these levels: Associate, Bachelor's, Certificate (<12 weeks), Certificate (1-2 years), Certificate (12 weeks-1 year), Certificate (2-4 years).
A school appears here if it awards anything in the field, however limited
its offering — a technical college teaching only practical nursing has a nursing
program. Listed alphabetically, not ranked.

the most recent year published. ⚠ It records what was awarded, which is
strong evidence of what is offered, but a program launched since 2023
will not appear here. Check the institution’s own catalog before applying.
