Biomedical Engineering

Biomedical engineering programmes apply engineering to medicine — instrumentation and imaging, biomaterials and implants, biomechanics, and tissue and neural engineering. It is Florida’s newest and fastest-growing engineering discipline. ⚠⚠ It is also the one where the bachelor’s degree is least often the end of the story: fewer than half of employers treat it as sufficient, and two Florida universities award the degree at graduate level only.

The degrees this program covers
The programme and the major are the same thing: a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering, with master’s and doctoral degrees above it. Some programmes brand it bioengineering, which is the same degree. ⚠⚠ UNLIKE MOST PROGRAMMES IN THIS REPOSITORY, THE GRADUATE DEGREES ARE NOT OPTIONAL EXTRAS — UCF and FAU offer them without any bachelor’s, and O*NET reports 26% of employers requiring a master’s and 13% a doctorate. ⚠ Check ABET accreditation under the ENGINEERING commission, not engineering technology.
