Course Description

Specialized Software for Interior Design provides instruction in specialised software used to convey effective visual communication in the interior design industry. Focusing on industry-leading programs such as SketchUp Pro, 2020 Design for Kitchen & Bath, and Revit, students develop general skills and tools needed for impressive industry projects and portfolio-quality work.

Within the SCNS taxonomy, IND is the Interior Design prefix. Daytona State publishes this at 3 credits with a $95.00 lab fee — the highest in the prefix, consistent with software licensing — offered spring, giving approximately 60 contact hours at the prefix's applied convention.

Software fluency is now a hiring filter in this field, and the three named programs are chosen deliberately: SketchUp for fast three-dimensional thinking and presentation, 2020 Design as the kitchen and bath industry's specification-linked tool, and Revit as the building information modelling platform that architectural and commercial practices increasingly work in. They serve different purposes and a designer is expected to know which to reach for.

Daytona State does not publish a lecture and laboratory split for its IND courses. The prefix runs at three conventions: studio courses at 30 contact hours per credit (IND1233C, IND2210C), graphics, software, and applied project courses at 20 (IND1300, IND1429C and IND2410C at 3 credits and 60 hours), and lecture courses at 15 (IND2220, IND2500). This course is software- and project-based and is priced at the applied convention.

Special Information

⚠ The model is only as good as the survey it was built from

⚠ A rendering is a promise — do not render what you cannot deliver

⚠⚠ Interior design decisions are life-safety decisions in commercial space

⚠⚠ Interior design is regulated in Florida — establish what you may practise before you plan a career

How Florida course levels affect transfer

The first digit of an SCNS number denotes the year of offering, not transferability. Courses at the 1000 and 2000 levels transfer transparently between Florida public institutions, and 3000 to 4000 is unproblematic since both are upper division. The boundary that actually matters is 2000 to 3000, where lower-division credit generally cannot satisfy an upper-division requirement.

IND2408 is 3 credits and approximately 60 contact hours with a $95.00 lab fee, offered spring at Daytona State.

It is a prerequisite for IND2414 (Kitchen and Bath Design II). Software fluency is a hiring filter in this field — practise outside lab hours, and build portfolio-quality output as you go.
