Course Description
Technical Sales addresses the intersection of technical expertise and sales proficiency. Students explore how technical knowledge applies to sales and service operations, examine organisational relationships among technical sales divisions, production departments, customers, and market competitors, and develop skills in combining technical understanding with sales competencies to deliver informed guidance and assistance across diverse product lines.

⚠ The technical person's advantage is diagnosis, not persuasion
- Industrial buyers are not persuaded; they are helped to decide. The stereotype of sales as talking is exactly wrong for this field — the best technical salespeople ask more than they tell.
- Your advantage over a non-technical competitor is that you can understand the customer's actual problem, which frequently is not the problem they first described.
- Diagnose before prescribing. Recommending a product before understanding the application is how technical credibility is lost in one meeting.
- Say when your product is not the right fit. Losing one sale honestly wins the relationship, and industrial markets are small enough that reputation travels.
- Translate to the buyer you have. An engineer wants specifications; a purchasing manager wants total cost and delivery; an operations manager wants uptime. Same product, three different conversations.
- Never overstate a capability. The commitment you make is the commitment production and service must meet, and a promise they cannot keep destroys the account and your standing internally.
- Follow through after the sale. Most industrial revenue is repeat business, and the follow-through is what produces it.
- Learn the customer's business, not just your product. That is what makes you a consultant rather than a vendor.

- ETI at Daytona State runs from 0000-level PSAV clock-hour courses through to 4000-level bachelor's coursework, which is an unusually wide range for one prefix.
- The 0000-level courses carry no college credit. ETI0450, ETI0456, ETI0481 and similar are PSAV clock-hour training measured in hours, not credits — a different credential entirely.
- The 1000- and 2000-level courses carry lower-division college credit and feed associate degrees.
- The 3000- and 4000-level courses are upper division, forming part of a bachelor of applied science in engineering technology.

How Florida course levels affect transfer
The first digit of an SCNS number denotes the year of offering, not transferability. Courses at the 1000 and 2000 levels transfer transparently between Florida public institutions, and 3000 to 4000 is unproblematic since both are upper division. The boundary that actually matters is 2000 to 3000, where lower-division credit generally cannot satisfy an upper-division requirement.
