- ⚠ Assume the sound is off. A large share of mobile video is watched muted — caption everything, which also happens to be the single biggest accessibility improvement you can make.
- Earn the first two seconds. The decision to keep watching is made almost immediately, and a slow build loses the audience before it arrives.
- Design for the thumb. Interactive elements belong within comfortable reach, and touch targets must be large enough to hit while moving.
- ⚠ Test on a real device, not on a desktop preview. Text that is readable on a monitor is frequently unreadable on a phone in sunlight.
- Optimise file sizes. People are on mobile data with limited plans, and a slow-loading piece is an unwatched piece.
- Build accessibility in from the start — captions, alternative text, sufficient contrast, and never colour alone as the carrier of meaning. Retrofitting it is far more expensive.
- Adapt rather than repost. The same story needs different framing, length, and pacing on each platform, and cross-posting unchanged reads as laziness.
