Course Description

ATF3531L is the flight-training course for the FAA instrument flight instructor rating — the CFII. It qualifies a flight instructor to give instruction toward an instrument rating and to sign the endorsements that let a candidate take the instrument practical test.

Polk State College carries both, at one credit either way. At UWF only the upper-level version exists.

Why it matters. A bachelor's degree requires upper-division credit, and a 2000-level course does not supply it. And under 14 CFR 61.160, the reduced-hour Restricted-Privileges ATP pathway turns on semester credit hours of aviation coursework — 60 with a bachelor's degree for the 1,000-hour threshold, 30 for the 1,250-hour threshold, against 1,500 by the standard route.
