Course Description

Advanced Refinishing and Lab has students demonstrate advanced refinish techniques, apply colour theory, and perform tinting and blending procedures, and develop skills in refinish defect removal and final detailing techniques. To graduate from the programme, students must pass the course with a C or better.

Within the SCNS taxonomy, ARR is the Automotive Collision Repair and Refinishing prefix, and the 0000-level number marks this as a PSAV clock-hour course. Daytona State publishes it at 120 clock hours with a $394.43 lab fee, prerequisite ARR0382C, offered summer. It carries zero college credit.

Colour matching is the hardest skill in refinishing and the one that separates a competent painter from a valuable one. A modern vehicle's colour is not a single formula — it varies by plant, by production date, by panel, and by how the original finish has weathered — and the code on the door jamb is a starting point rather than an answer. Learning to see colour accurately, adjust a formula, and blend a repair so the eye cannot find the transition is the work of this course and, honestly, of the following decade.

Special Information

⚠⚠ This is a PSAV clock-hour course — and the C-or-better gate is enforced

⚠⚠ Colour matching: the paint code is a starting point, not an answer

⚠ Blending is what makes a repair invisible

⚠ Defect removal and delivery — the last hour decides the customer's opinion

⚠⚠ Collision repair safety — the hazards that cause permanent harm

⚠ The programme runs three parallel tracks as corequisite triples — plan the whole thing

Daytona State's collision repair programme is structured as three parallel tracks taken together each term, not as a single linear sequence. Understanding the shape before you enrol prevents a great deal of confusion.

⚠ I-CAR and ASE are what the industry hires and insures on

⚠ An honest account of the industry — and why Florida is a strong market

How Florida course levels affect transfer

The first digit of an SCNS number denotes the year of offering, not transferability. Courses at the 1000 and 2000 levels transfer transparently between Florida public institutions, and 3000 to 4000 is unproblematic since both are upper division. The boundary that actually matters is 2000 to 3000, where lower-division credit generally cannot satisfy an upper-division requirement.

ARR0123C is a 120 clock-hour PSAV course carrying zero college credit, with a $394.43 lab fee, offered summer, and it is a graduation requirement with a C or better.

Colour work rewards deliberate practice more than any other part of the trade. Spray out cards, compare them under different lights, and keep a personal record of what each toner did — the painters who build that reference are the ones who can match anything a decade later.
