Course Description

Computerized Spreadsheet is an introductory course designed for students new to spreadsheet applications. It covers comprehensive concepts and techniques of spreadsheet applications used in the field of business, and beyond foundational topics includes simple macros, pivot charts, and various worksheet design techniques.

Within the SCNS taxonomy, APA is the Applied Accounting prefix. Daytona State publishes this at 3 credits, offered fall and spring.

Spreadsheet skill is the most portable and most under-taught competence in business, and the gap between casual and competent use is enormous. Almost everyone can total a column; very few can build a model another person can audit, or work out why a workbook that behaved for three years has started producing a wrong figure. That gap is where the pay difference sits — and the note below on why spreadsheets fail is the most useful content in this guide.

Daytona State does not publish a contact-hour figure for this course. It is an unsuffixed lecture course, and the institution's lecture convention is 15 contact hours per credit — TAX3001, PSY1012 and SYG2000 are all live at 3 credits and 45 hours. This course is priced at that convention.

How Florida course levels affect transfer

The first digit of an SCNS number denotes the year of offering, not transferability. Courses at the 1000 and 2000 levels transfer transparently between Florida public institutions, and 3000 to 4000 is unproblematic since both are upper division. The boundary that actually matters is 2000 to 3000, where lower-division credit generally cannot satisfy an upper-division requirement.

APA1711 is 3 credits and approximately 45 contact hours, offered fall and spring at Daytona State.
